    This party is shit. Will thinks as he stands in the corner of a grimy New York City loft. He wishes he could dip. Around him, various NYU, Fordham, and Cuni students dance incoherently to the music blasting from the speakers placed in the corners of the room. He only knows about two and a half people here, one of whom is Mike, who is nowhere to be found.

    When he and Mike both got into NYU and decided to room together Will had pictured late nights playing D&D, new friends, and better parties than this one. To be fair the beginning of their freshman year had started out really well, that was until Mike got blasted and kissed him the very first Friday they got there.

    Will hums. He reaches out towards Mikes ungloved hand again, pulling it towards his lap and cups Mikes long, slender fingers between his gloved hands. “Okay.” Will says, leaning back in his seat. He flashes Mike a smile, so soft. So sweet. “Ready to go?”

    His fingers tingle, not from the warmth, but from the way Will runs his thumb against the back of his hand. Slow and delicate. It might as well leave a burn mark against his skin.

    Will Byers is holding my hand. Mike thinks. He’s holding my hand and I’m in love with him.

    “It was El who broke up with you, though. It’s not like it’s your fault she fell out of love,” Will offered. “That was what she said right?”
    For a second their eyes met, but Mike quickly glanced away. He’d been doing that more often recently. Will could understand. Holding eye contact lately… ever since they were spending nights lying awake next to each other, sometimes talking, but mostly pretending to sleep… Let’s say it felt harder than usual to hold Mike’s gaze for him as well.
    “… Yes,” Mike answered. “Right. She said that,” he added as if to remind himself.
    A loud snort from the main hall pierced through their conversation. “Oh, please.” Murray mocked from the couch. Will and Mike both turned their heads to stare at him with pinched expressions.
    “What?” Murray exclaimed. “Falling out of love is not the reason El broke up with you.”

    OR: Mike and Will get Murray’d and deal with the consequences.
    (But, of course that alone won’t be enough to completely burn Mike’s intense repression, so we’re going to rely on our good old friend Vecna to give Mike some insight into his own mind…)
