Mumbo stands in the beginning of the end of his creations, and he’s not numb to it so much as he’s useless, made to stand in place as he watches what he loves become history that may never be discovered again, and-
The fog creeps around him again.
“Really?” he demands the sky, and something sharp is eager to fill the hurt void in his chest. “Come on mate, honestly - at least give me something interesting to dream about! This is just- just- pants! Honestly, could you at least give me a night of, oh, I dunno, something more cheerful than a bloody funeral? Quite frankly, it’s getting boring.”
The fog closes in a little until the wisps of black tease along his arms. He faintly thinks he might wake up.
"I’m sorry,” a voice says suddenly, and Mumbo’s heart seizes. It’s not his, nor the hermits, or any voice he recognizes. “Unfortunately, I’m afraid we’re both outta luck here, fella.”
Mumbo blinks, dazed, glancing back and forth. The motion feels like freefall. There’s… nothing. No one, except...
“Pardon me,” Mumbo says faintly, “are you… the fog?”
Or: Mumbo's dreams are haunted by a mysterious shadow, and his days are haunted by a faulty jukebox.

Summary
If Mumbo is being completely honest with himself, he’s tired of these letters. He’s tired of not being able to see Grian and spend real time with him like everyone else. But he’s worried. Worried that they’re going to get caught, that Grian is going to get in massive trouble.
Yet there’s a part of him that wants to say to hell with the Watchers and their rules and to do something selfish for once.
The sun god cuts through his thoughts, rambling on. “Besides, I’ve got it all figured out! As long as we don’t cross over a three hour time limit, we should be fine! Just — trust me on this?”
Sighing, Mumbo gives him a smile. “I trust you, Grian.”

“Alright then you pesky bird, what is it that you’re after?” he asked, and Grian felt the feeling in his stomach start to bubble up again.
It wasn’t that the nickname was anything new; Mumbo had started affectionately using it after the first time he had found him rifling through his chests and borrowing his things without asking. No, it was his voice. The tone of playful resignation as he gave in to Grian’s whims was so familiar, so open, so fond.
Fond of him.

Summary
Impulse exhales where he’s making himself some tools, rolling his shoulders. He looks over in the distance, taking in the view of the grassy slopes, the shape of what looks like a pillager outpost standing proudly. Impulse bites his lip, looking back at his work.
If Impulse is honest with himself, the idea of soulmates this time around is… It’s really nice.
The main issue is, of course, the shared health. Looking after himself is simple enough. Looking out for another person on top of that is… A little worrying to think about.
In which Impulse is in love with his soulmate, gets married to him, and confesses his love. In that order, with some details in between.
