Summary
Hi. This is Ilya. I will never listen to your voicemail.
The greeting wasn’t a joke or an exaggeration—it was the truth. Shane leaves messages anyway, confessions to a digital void that will never judge him, and never push him away.
At least, that’s what he thinks.

Summary
“You’ll text when you land, right?” Shane asks as he takes an exit ramp labeled Airport Departures.
“Yes. Promise.”
“And you’ll call tonight?” Shane’s throat works over the words, like he still doesn’t trust this new thing between them. Ilya thinks he understands. He also doesn’t know how to trust this love. How can he when it has been trapped in his own heart so long. Neither of them know what the next year will bring. There is so much time before Ilya can have his agent, or his future agent, he will need a new one with no connections to Russia, reach out to Ottawa and hope that they’ll be interested in a future Hall of Fame center. The one thing Ilya is certain of is that he will do everything in his power to make their plan work. He spent his entire adult life lusting after, and then pining for Shane with his whole heart.
“I will call.” Ilya reaches for the hand Shane has left on the gearshift and threads his fingers through his. He wants to say so much, but he has always been better with touch than words, especially when the only shared language was English. “We will talk every day.”
Or, There is a year before Ilya can sign with Ottawa, Shane counts down the days until their forever.

ReHeated | Between the Scenes: A Canon-Compliant Compilation of the Scenes We Didn't See by SuperFreakyHollanov
Fandom Heated Rivalry (TV)
02 Mar 2026
Summary
My intention is for this series to be supplemental to the Heated Rivalry TV series. Each work will be a stand-alone perspective of either Shane or Ilya (and probably a few cameos by ancillary characters) throughout the series. Everything written will always be canon-compliant with the TV show. Any future references I might use from the books may not remain canon compliant if the TV show heads in a different direction. But I don't expect to be writing that far into the future for that to be an issue.
I am essentially trying to both expand the episode and go deeper into themes, rationales, and actions of the characters. For a multimedia type experience, readers could read these while watching the actual episodes; I do that when I'm writing.
If you've taken the time to read one or more of these works, I thank you very much for your time and support. :)

This work explores everything they don't show us during S1E4 of Heated Rivalry. This is canon-compliant as of the publish date.
Note: This is part 9 of a series and will reference characters and events that are only found in earlier works of the series and are not on the show (but are canon-compliant or canon-supportive)

Summary
The game had barely fucking started and yet he feels like he’s been drained of energy. As if someone had pulled the ripcord and now he’s plummeting slowly to the ground, gravity pulling hard at his feet. His blades catch on the rubber floor as he scoots down the bench, numb, as coach starts yelling out instructions. It must be something about the look on Ilya’s face that has coach skipping him in the roster. Telling him to take a beat with a heavy hand on his shoulder.
Ilya doesn’t want to sit here another minute. He wants to drop his stick and follow the path where the stretcher disappeared down the tunnel. He wants to put eyes on Shane, prove to himself that he’s fine and going to be fine.
Or
The missing hours between when Shane was hit, and the hospital visit the next morning, from Ilya's POV (with bonus cottage scene at the end)
