Summary
None of it mattered. The world was here - a world was here, and they were in it. Jon’s chest did not have a gaping knife wound in it. And the sky was blue and it did not look back down at them.
“We did it…” Jon said softly, as if deciding on a conclusion. A simple, dazed statement. One hand still absently rubbed across his chest, as if massaging an invisible bruise.
“Wh—” Martin’s voice failed the first go around. He swallowed, hard, and tried again. His hands were shaking. “What…what exactly did we do?”
Or,
I watched OA season 2 and went “whoa the whole alternate universe thing where you get transported into another version of yourself and are forced to improvise your way through living their life with no context and no clue of what’s going on while the other version of you lives suppressed deep within your subconscious is pretty cool”

Summary
The sky was red now. It would always be red, from now until the end of forever. For all of eternity the sky would be red to serve as a reminder for the grievance he had committed. His reminder. His penance. Red sky for the red blood he’d spilled down his father’s back which he didn’t even regret because his own red heart had so much red anger.
It’s been 2 months.

Summary
The Bachelor—man of science, child of the capital—has no ritual in him. No way to excise the growing tumor in his heart. Artemy should have seen it building. Expected something drastic. No ritual, but he doesn’t lack for drama.
“Oynon.” Artemy reaches for him. The Bachelor finally looks up.
(the Bachelor has realized that this is all a farce. the Haruspex helps him through it.)

Summary
Whatever it was, the little voice in his head, it told him to go home.
What he’ll find home is a different story. A vast quiet, thick and swathing. A dark hush over the rooms, the kitchen, nothing but the scraping of mice and the stray cat Notkin had brought in. An absence, acute, of Isidor, still lingering in the air.
And somewhere upstairs, far and close, in a room sealed tightly shut, another man sleeping.
Or: a breaking point.

Summary
He finds himself unmoving, the bite of frost becoming something else on his skin: a strange, numbing sweetness. Drowsy, it plucks at the outer edges of him as though to pick apart the doll’s stitching and coax him down to rest, a dome of snow growing over his body like mould, entombing.
I didn’t come here to die, Daniil lies to himself, one more time.
Or: Daniil returns to the Town-on-Gorkhon. Or so he thinks.

Summary
He inhales sharply at his own name, as though it hurts to hear it. In the pale morning light, his skin is almost greyish, paper-thin. If Artemy reached out, he could trace the sunken shape of his cheek, the small scar of a cut across it.
“Yes, you came here,” Dankovsky says at length, scarcely over a whisper. “You’ve seen—the state of me. Veni, vidi, vici—again, there’s really nothing to say.”
There’s a pause. Artemy draws in a breath. “I won’t say it, then.”
Or; Artemy goes to the Capital.

Summary
“Relax,” Artemy tells him.
Dankovsky’s body obeys before his mind does. In fact, it had as soon as Artemy touched him.
“Do you get headaches often?”
Dankovsky grunts. “Don’t waste your diagnostics on me. There’s a plague.”
