Summary
Rue Bennett has a job, two community college classes, and a relapse she is trying to hide behind the phrase “it’s not pills.”
Maddy Perez has a boyfriend who is nothing like Nate, which would be more comforting if that were not the lowest bar ever dragged across California.
They were never friends. They just lived through same high school, the same parties, the same play, and the same intervention where Rue threw Cassie’s secret like a grenade and Maddy happened to be standing closest to the blast.
Now they’re twenty-one, back in East Highland, and both calling themselves better.
This goes about as well as expected.

Summary
Rue smiles but pulls Maddy behind the counter and toward the back where the cameras are. The set up is simple.
“It was shit back here but I cleaned it up as best as I could.” Rue explains. “Apparently, the old man used to chill back here before he got too old and then died.”
Maddy gasp and take a step back in horror, “He died back here?”
Rue smirks, “No. At home in his bed.”
“Oh.” Maddy replies but she still looks around in disgust.
Rue snorts, “It’s either this or your car.”
Maddy rolls her eyes.
“I got this.” Rue shows a firestick. “We can watch project runway.”
Maddy lips curve up and look Rue up and down who is wearing a pair of loose jeans, the latest Jordans, and an oversized shirt. “You watch project runway?”
Rue roll her eyes, “No. But, it’s been trending so…”’ She shrugs. “…maybe you’ll learn a thing or two.”
Maddy roll her eyes but finally move to the couch. “Whatever.”
Rue doesn’t hide her smile.
or
Maddy Perez escapes home to the 7/11 for peace and quiet…that’s until Rue Bennett starts working the night shift.

Summary
Natalie Scatorccio has spent years avoiding Lottie Matthews—the rich girl with the perfect grades, the perfect life, the perfect everything that makes Natalie's skin crawl. They're soccer teammates. They're classmates. They don't talk. That's how it works.
Then one drunk night, one misdirected text, one photo meant for Travis ends up in Lottie's hands instead.
And suddenly, everything Natalie spent years avoiding. Comes crashing down. Because Lottie doesn't react the way Natalie expected. She doesn't judge. She doesn't spread it around. She just... stays. Keeps texting. Keeps being there.
And Natalie can't figure out if Lottie is messing with her, being genuinely kind, or if there's something else entirely happening between them. Something that makes her stomach twist and her hands shake and her carefully constructed indifference completely fall apart.
Highschool pre-crash. The kind of tension that builds when you're forced to see someone differently than you ever wanted to.

Summary
'“I see you’ve noticed Satan over there.”
“Huh?” Adora felt her cheeks flushing red as she tore her gaze away from the girl and turned to whoever had spoken. “Sorry, were you talking to me?”
The gorgeous girl strutted past them without a single glance, like she was totally oblivious to how much the world seemed to want her. The girl who had spoken to her followed the other girls down the hallway with her gaze. An intense wave of dislike seemed to emanate from her.
“Satan,” the girl repeated, nodding down the hallway once the other girls turned the corner, “Catrina Driluth, but everyone just calls her Catra. Head cheerleader. All the girls want to be her, all the guys want to fuck her, and she’s completely fucking evil from head to toe.”'
Or, Catra is the bitchy head cheerleader and Adora is the socially awkward new girl. What could go wrong?
