In his dreams, Draco took charge once the healer told them her diagnosis. He shoved aside his emotions and asked the valuable questions that he needed to know. His grip on Hermione’s hand assured her that everything would be okay. He even asked the one question that would cause the healer to have such a strong revelation about the illness that he would come up with a cure.
When she needed him most, in his mind at least, he acted like a man.
But that wasn’t what he did.

“I had a lot of fun today, Granger. I’m glad you’re here with me.” Draco reshuffled his body on the bed.
Hermione was still facing him. She hadn’t realized how close their beds were last night. She could easily reach out and touch his face if she wanted to. She now realized how much she wanted to.
“Me too. I knew this trip would be relaxing, but you being here has made it so much better. Imagine me being a third wheel to those two this whole time.”
Hermione made a face in disgust. Draco laughed into his pillow. She laughed too.
“Hermione.” She froze at the use of her first name. Draco lifted his hand to brush the hair away from her eyes and cup it behind her ear. She stopped breathing.
He reached over and touched her lips gently. “Can I come over there?”

Summary
Hermione was punctual. It was one of the many bits of information that Draco had accumulated about her. They had been doing whatever this was for a few months now, and Draco was no closer to figuring out a path forwards than he had been the first time. Which had been after some Ministry gala, when they had both gotten startlingly (and quite inappropriately for a Malfoy) inebriated. Draco was no expert on emotions, but he had seen in the papers that Granger and Weasley had finally called it quits, and he assumed that was behind Granger’s out-of-character lack of control. Imagine his surprise when a week later, he bumped into her in Dragon Alley, and she boldly asked him back to her flat. Since then, they had kept this tenuous line between work and play, business and pleasure, truth and secrecy. It was clear that she needed an outlet, and Draco was more than willing to provide it to her.
