A slow breath. “My head hurts.”
“Oh?”
“And I’m tired. Really– tired.”
Henry sighs, drawing circles over the smooth fur on David’s ear. He can’t say that he’s surprised. This last term has been hard on Alex, as exam seasons always are and Henry can count the nights he didn’t need to drag him to bed at three am over the last few weeks on one hand.
A crash was always inevitable and Henry was always planning on being right here to catch him when it came. He only hoped it wouldn’t happen this soon– so Alex could enjoy at least one carefree night.
His beautiful, hard working boyfriend of all people would have deserved that much. But Henry knows better than to take this call for anything other than it is: a plea to hear what Alex can’t bear to speak out loud.
“Would you like to come home, my love?”
or - Alex has a tough day and Henry reminds him that his family will always be there waiting for him.

Waste had been a concept his mother had hated when they’d been on the run together. Five million dollars had probably seemed like a lot to most people but Mary had taken them on the run from a man with far-reaching hands and a burning desire to see them dead at his hands.
Fake passports cost money. Hair dye and coloured contacts and items that changed the shapes of their faces just enough to trick security cameras? Cost money. Simply surviving had quickly made their fortune dwindle down to the dregs before Seattle.
Before that though, Neil had learned how to repair holes in his clothes before he’d mastered fractions, had learned how to stretch out everything he owned until there was no other choice but to toss it. Even his contacts had gone through more than their recommended usage when Neil had been unable to get a new pair.
But food? Wasting food was unforgivable.

Summary
A hurricane traveling up the coast from Florida is set to touch down in Palmetto, a problem no one predicted would incur anything other than storm damages. But the foxes learn the hard way that hurricanes fuck with barometric pressure, which fucks with scar tissue, something Neil happens to have a lot of.
So when he wakes up in excruciating pain, convinced that the past seven months after Baltimore weren’t real, he does the one thing he’d promised not to do anymore…
He runs.
Andrew isn’t far behind of course, but Neil is firm in his belief that he never actually left the car with Lola. There’s also a flash flood advisory to worry about, and he very much tore out of Fox Tower in nothing but a t-shirt and boxer shorts during a literal tropical storm.
