Summary
On an otherwise unremarkable night, something falls from the sky over the Sagolii Desert. Its body is flesh and bone, it barely knows how to walk, and the void between IPs just taught it how to say "fuck". It becomes Pakik, who will go on to save Hydaelyn a few times. The questions are normal enough. The officer's tone is perfunctory, clipped like a hedgerow, but that's not unusual among the bureaucracy. Citizens are processed first, swiftly, but then, the foreigners –
G'raha mislikes the tone. The way the woman's eye sweeps over Estelle as if she's importing pox on her furs. The way she says, "I suppose that is considered a valid calling in your native Eorzea," and means that in Sharlayan, it is certainly not.

The accidental hero of Eorzea and an overbearing post-grad walk into an archaeological site. I forgot the rest of the joke, but it's got doomsday technology from a fallen empire, deserter engineers from an unfallen empire, a blue chocobo, and a giant dead dragon in a lake. No one's walking out of here the same.
I'm sorry about the title. (I'm not sorry even a little bit.) This is a mostly canon-compliant fic of the Crystal Tower raids with bonus scenes growing all over it. You know how it ends. But don't you want to see how it gets there?
