Max was no stranger to nightmares.
They didn’t come every night, but a few days a week, he would be forced into consciousness with his breaths coming in fast and heavy, sweat beading on his forehead with little else going through his brain other than the sound of shouting, of bottles breaking, of slammed doors.
If he caught his eyes drooping, he’d lug himself back to bed. If they never did, well, it’s not like his dark circles would be noticed, in school or… otherwise.
Unfortunately, in the all-too-familiar hellscape of Camp Campbell, where the asshole self-assigned to looking after you mutters tree names under his breath in sleep and has his ringtone set to ‘Accidentally in Love’ from the Shrek 2 soundtrack, this lack of attention is, well, lacking.

Summary
He heard a sniffle from Zelda and he finally looked up at the headstone, finally met consequence’s intimidating glare.
And under all that weight, he buckled.
“I’m sorry,” he croaked in a voice that barely reached over the crickets and boomed across the desert all at once. He didn’t know who he was apologizing to - Zelda or Urbosa. But the weight, the desperation in his tone said that he was apologizing to everything he’d destroyed. “I-I’m so sorry.”

Summary
Her knight doesn’t react immediately. Instead, he shuts his eyes and takes a slow, concentrated breath, like he’s attempting to ground himself. The motion causes her heart to race a bit, alarm bells ringing in her ears. Just how exhausted is he? A hand comes to rest on hers, where she’s wiping a patch of dust off of his cheek with her thumb, and he finally opens his eyes again. The electric blue color that normally shines in his gaze seems almost pale and empty, like the very life has been drained out of them. “No,” He says, so softly she almost misses it, and then he begins to sway in place. “I’m sorry.”

Or, Link and Zelda find themselves injured after a fight and have to help each other out a bit.
