Summary
You say, “get out of here, Recruit,” as mean as you can, as unfriendly as you can make it. The kind of voice that makes other recruits just about piss their pants.
Cope just looks at you, all the way from the door. A tin cup between his hands. In five small, carefully balanced steps, he crosses the room to you. He puts the cup down on the desk, beside your left wrist. “Dismissed, Cope,” you say through your teeth. He turns silently on his heel and leaves. He leaves the door open, so you can hear them cheering for him.
Someone jokes that he’s survived the dragons den, and you wonder if they know.
After a moment, you pick up the cup. It’s half full of whiskey, strong as a memory. Out there, the recruits start singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and you are elsewhere, remembering Maitra’s eyes that day when he’d called Wilkinson a faggot. The way he’d looked at you, your hands still over the pieces of your disassembled rifle, a song still on your lips, and he’d known—or, you’d known that he suspected.
You put your lips to the edge of the cup, imagining Copes mouth on the metal, and sip slowly, like it’s something else you’re tasting.
Again, you are wanting something you don’t deserve to have.

Summary
In a quiet patch of countryside, Stede runs a struggling animal rescue for the creatures no one else wants. He can’t fix a fence or fill out paperwork, but his heart’s big enough to try. When the wrong forms threaten to shut the place down, Fang calls in his friend Ed Teach, a lawyer who prefers order to chaos. Ed arrives reluctantly, efficient and closed-off, but something about Stede and one very persistent animal makes it hard to stay away.

Summary
Stede Bonnet never really got over Ed Teach. Maybe that’s because of their long-distance friends-with-benefits situation they’ve had going for three years. Maybe it’s because when Stede falls in love, he does so with reckless abandon and doesn’t bother to try and get out of it. But just because he never got over Ed, doesn’t mean he hasn’t tried, and with minor success. He may even be a little bit (just a little, just a really, tiny bit) in love again.
This would be alright if Ed hadn’t come back to Port Republic. Maybe just for the holidays, maybe forever. Stede certainly doesn’t know, and while he is actually happy to spend the time with Ed, there’s that issue of being a little bit (maybe a bit more than a little, but it’s too soon, really) in love with someone else. Izzy Hands, to be exact. Ed’s ex.Bookmarked by handsoff

Summary
When Izzy and Stede first meet, it's with a literal bang: the sound of Stede's car ramming into Izzy's bumper in a classic parking lot fender bender. Things could have easily ended there, except Stede can't stop thinking about the irate guy in the black muscle car. And despite his best efforts, Izzy can't get the ridiculous man in the periwinkle blue hatchback out of his mind.
