After 200 years as a bloodsucker, Astarion accidentally does the worst thing someone in his position could do: He grows a conscience.
In his defense, it's kind of hard not to when these idiots he's ended up with are being so damn nice to him, for reasons he simply can't wrap his head around. Finally the guilt becomes too much and he swears off feeding from the party. He'll simply find his meals elsewhere, feeding off animals and whatever juicy enemies they stumble across. It's fine. And it was.
