Theo holds his hand out and Pansy holds her breath.
Her mother would smack her hand. Such things are for boys, she would chide her. But Pansy is fascinated.
Its skin isn’t warm like she expected it to be. It’s cold. And it’s not slimy. She expected it to be like the frog Theo brought in once, but it’s different. She likes it.
The snake, whom she’s named Fiona, winds around her wrist. Pansy and Daphne giggle, and even Daphne reaches out a finger to stroke its tiny head.
