Summary
Ava’s voice sliced through the droning sound of the TV, playing some sort of melodramatic soap opera, one of Ava’s picks. Yelena was glad for Ava’s quick decisions and her bossiness, as she didn’t know many movies that could fill the silence. A conversation while half-listening to a generic Hallmark movie was easier than a conversation while half-listening to a childish action movie she remembered from her youth.
“I still feel bad, you know.”

Summary
The sheets rustled beside her, the wooden bedframe groaned. A frown marred Bob’s lips as he began to wake, no doubt stirred by her own sluggish movements. Yelena stared through bleary eyes, an almost voyeuristic rush shooting through her veins. Watching him, his expression unguarded as he pulled himself awake, it was more intimate than she would’ve expected. She would’ve felt bad, on any other occasion.
She bit down on her bottom lip, a sharp stab. To control herself, like one would shock a dog.
“Good morning,” she whispered anyway, as Bob interlocked their fingers together, moving her hand towards him. His movements were sluggish, either from sleep or wanting to be gentle with her. Nowadays, she didn’t care about the latter. Their connected hands rested against his chest, his heartbeat thrumming through his shirt, beating against the side of her hand.

“We’re cool, right?” Bob asked her, now standing where she had been. She stopped in her tracks, unable to look at anything other than the door.
Yelena smiled, coiled tighter than a spring. “Yes. We’re cool. Goodnight.”
She closed the door behind her, waiting for the click with bated breath. At the sound, she took off down the hall—illness be damned. Once she was back in the safety of her room, she collapsed against the door and scrubbed her shaking hands over her face.
They were the furthest thing from cool.

After exactly twenty minutes of silence, Yelena decides this was the stupidest tradition ever invented in the world.
While also realizing that maybe, as the one who actually invited Ava to do this shit, she would just have to force the talking to happen.
Naturally, Yelena waits until Ava was mid–mouthful of chips before casually dropping, “So. You know he’s in love with you, right?”
As expected, Ava chokes violently.

Summary
There’s something wrong with the room when Bob pushes the door open. Bed made, everything in its place, well, almost everything. Though she was a light packer by nature and by necessity, Yelana always had a penchant for nick-nacs. He doesn’t need to check the closet to know it’s empty. Even if it wasn’t, clothes are replaceable, her trinkets aren’t and so their absence is all he needs to confirm what he already knows. She’s gone.
Or, after a year of being an Avenger, Yelena Belova leaves without a word and Bob is left trying to figure out where everything went wrong.
