Summary
Ryan’s head hasn’t stopped swimming with thoughts– he wants to say so much, and ask so many questions, even if he’s scared of the answers. More than anything, he wants to apologize profusely. But what he thinks about now is the inevitable dread of splitting up to their houses when they get back– the cold night and colder house with people who don’t speak to him before he goes to bed anymore.
He thinks back to the mill. He doesn’t know if anything will ever be like that again.
Plus, Naim’s gaze puts any coherent thoughts out of his head. Naim’s gaze darting to his lips, and back, and moving towards him feels like some siren call. And he's not really well equipped to deal with resisting that.
Or: The hospital scene + the bus scene, but from Ryan’s point of view.

Summary
University will be filled with men who have trust funds and expensive internships, ones who could afford to take Naim to dinner and museums and on romantic dates. Men who didn’t smell like motor oil and clay dust and cigarettes, men who could take him to parties in polo shirts and nice clean cars. Naim would never have to take the bus again. Roiling, hot jealousy fills his head for this nameless, faceless man, Naim’s future boyfriend. He’d probably play the guitar or something. Write Naim stupid songs. Shit like that. Ryan feels sick.
Since leaving Bandee an over a year ago, they’ve never spent a single night apart. Naim’s University orientation might change that.

Summary
“I think people underestimate how stupid the human brain really is. It’s all very simple, the way we work. Remarkably so, honestly. If something causes us pain, our brain tells us to avoid it. Fear is one of the most singularly powerful motivators for survival we possess.”
Cardboard bites into Naim's palm. Fingers open, then close, crumpling it smaller and smaller, the coffee soaking between his fingers where the bloated paper releases it.
"So what happens when someone betrays you so thoroughly? How does your brain decide to process that? You’re fighting back against your own base instinct.”

Naim steps off the bus into a new life- but that doesn't garuntee it'll be easy. -

Summary
Ruffled, Naim stands taller. "What'd you mean 'a guy like me'?"
Those ice blue irises dip, lazily dragging down to the front of his converse before taking the same path back up again. When they meet Naim's eyes again, there is a glint in them that makes his stomach flip.
A smirk overtakes the blond's expression. "Dunno. That's what I'm curious about."
The night begins as just another party that Naim is being dragged along to. However, that changes the moment that Ryan Whelan notices him through the crowd.

Bookmarker's Notes
Naim bites his bottom lip to smother a smile from showing. Though he does think there may be something sinister brewing inside of him, with how hot he finds that uncertainty in Ryan's gaze whenever he thinks he is doing something wrong.
love whats wrong with both of us tbh

Summary
Under the weight of Naim’s gaze, Ryan was a boundless thing, forever unspooling like silk ribbon into Naim’s waiting arms. That feeling made him soft, made him complacent and docile and all the things he’d tried to lock away many years ago. It made him vulnerable. Ryan pretended not to know that, but he did know. The thing attached to him knew it, too.
Or: The entity plays with its food. Ryan thinks Naim might hate him.
Ryan's experience with the entity since the film is mostly Naim's POV.

He should have known, but he’d always had the survival instincts of a loyal dog, the type that didn’t notice when its owner slowly stopped feeling responsible for it.

Summary
"Naim hangs up the call with a bit more force than is probably necessary, the desperation in her voice still ringing through his ears. Fuck. That was stupid. That was so, so stupid."
OR
