“Are we gonna talk about why you don’t want me to touch you?” Vi’s voice is casual, but her gray eyes shine with hurt.
Caitlyn reaches for her, taking one of Vi’s hands in hers, running her thumb over bruised and scarred knuckles. “Of course I want you to touch me.”
“Not when we’re having sex.”
Caitlyn almost argues that she’d let Vi touch her the whole time, keeping several points of contact between them, enjoying Vi’s hands on her waist and in her hair. But she knows that’s not what Vi means. Her eyes drop to their hands. “Sex is… complicated for me.”

Case in point? Vi’s phone was currently flooded with swimsuit selfies depicting Caitlyn in a dozen poses that emphasized every line of her perfect body. Not because she was flirting or trying to seduce Vi, but because she wanted Vi’s advice on which one she should wear on their beach trip.
As if Vi knew anything about fashion. As if she would be judging the cuts and patterns of the fabrics instead of admiring how they hugged Caitlyn’s curves. As if she wouldn’t be distracted by how much of Caitlyn’s body they didn’t cover.

Vi freezes up at the tone of Caitlyn’s voice.
It’s that careful one she uses at the precinct. When she’s warning someone. Usually accompanied with Caitlyn drawing herself up as tall as possible, smiling in a dangerously polite way, eye fixating on you. Lower pitch, slower dictation, dragging out a syllable, forcing you to listen to every word if you want the full sentence as she speaks.
“I told you to behave.”
They usually have a routine for nights like this. But tonight getting started is taking way too long, and Vi’s trying, but she doesn’t know how much longer she can wait.
