In hindsight, he couldn’t believe he’d fallen for it. The oldest trick in the book, and he’d barely thought twice. If D3rLord had told him that gullible was written on the ceiling, he probably would’ve fallen for that too.
He had sat there for what felt like hours, staring at his laptop. The screen seemed like it was laughing at him. ‘You Died!’ was displayed in large, classic Minecraft text. That was it. No button to respawn or quit. No option to come back, no shot at stopping the King and Derek from merging. No second chance to save his friend.
He heard the fireworks going off. They’d been going for a while now. Some distant, some close. Every loud bang reminded him, with a stab to his heart, that his friend would probably never get to experience another new year.
You are real.
You are special.
