So, Henry’s life in Sandford is fine. Not demonstrably better or worse than his life in London, just different. And just boring enough that he catches himself hoping something interesting might happen.
As a police officer, he should have known better.
(When he's transferred to a new position in the country, Henry expects to be bored and miserable.
