"Yuma? You there?"
Yuma snaps out of it. Poor Jo—he'd left him hanging. "Yeah, sorry. He texted me."
"Nicholas?"
"Harua."
"Oh." Jo sounds a little confused. "What did he have to say?"
"He's giving me tips on how to seduce his brother," Yuma replies. With new energy, he springs from the mattress and throws his closet doors open, squeezing past his parents’ storage boxes to rummage through the hangers. "I guess I have to sneak a crop top into my outfits this week somehow."
A pause. The scratching of pencil against paper on the other end. "This deal seems odd," is all Jo says, before falling silent again.
(or: yuma, a burnt out college sophomore on summer break, and harua, a wannabe rebel stuck in gap year hell, make a deal with nicholas as the collateral. other things end up on the line, too.)

“Sorry,” Yuma blurts out. “I’m, uh, not a top.”
Harua blinks. “Okay.”
“So I can’t hook up with you.”
“I . . . don’t see the problem.”
Yuma squints at him. At pretty, slender Harua, in his glittery makeup and crop-top, who ordered a strawberry daiquiri at the bar but is somehow looking at him like he’s the weird one here. There’s no way he’s this dense.
Unless.
(or: yuma lets a cute stranger buy his drink. things escalate predictably... until they don't.)

“Which one is it?” Jay asks, so solemnly Jake has no idea whether to laugh or worry.
“Huh?”
“There are two people sitting at thirteen. Which one is the guy you were talking about?”
“The older one?” Jake stammers. “On the left.” Unhelpfully, he holds up the glass of soda. “He got the coke.”
Just as abruptly as it arrived, all the tension drains from Jay’s expression. “Oh, good. Because I call dibs on the other one.”
(alternatively titled: tfw you're serving a table with two cute guys and you just so happen to be two cute waiters. what could go wrong?)

Summary
As Harua hangs up, Yuma’s eyes bore into him from the side, expectant.
“Power’s out.”
“Yeah,” Yuma replies. “I gathered that.”
“I’ll go grab my blankets.”
“What?”
“We need to conserve heat,” Harua says, mentally running through what little he remembers about power outage protocol. “And since you’re sick, and you've got the better bed, we should probably stay in here.”
Yuma’s eyes widen in alarm. “What?”
Harua takes a moment to pray for patience.
(or: harua goes into his old high school friend group's long-awaited ski trip with one plan and one plan only—avoiding nakakita yuma. an incoming blizzard has other plans.)
