“Are we thinking white sheep or black sheep?”
The question, unrelated to anything, pulls her back to her body enough to frown. She’s shaking still, curled against Joel as tight as she can get, having woken up from a nightmare that left her screaming, convinced someone was sawing through her arm to roast it over their fire. In reality, Joel’s too-big shirt on her had just gotten twisted around her shoulder in her sleep, but the dream had been fucking vivid, and it’s like she can feel phantom chopping at the base of her arm.
“What?” She asks, voice a croak. She thinks briefly about tilting her head up to look at Joel when she asks it, but she’s tucked up in a little ball against him, and the feel of him all around her makes her feel safe in a way she’s been worrying she’d never feel again.
“For our moon sheep ranch when this is all over,” he says, resting his cheek on top of her head. “I think black sheep would be easier to find. The white ones might get lost.”
(alternate ending fic following the end of episode 8 up through 9 ft. joel being a good dad and talk about blue sheep)

“Oh,” Ellie says when they hear a shuffling in the hall, and from the sound of it he knows she’s had an idea.
Before he can ask, before he can do a single thing, she yanks his arm through the fence, shoves his sleeve back, and sinks her teeth deep into the skin just above his elbow.
He curses and reflexively jerks back, but her grip on his arm is strong, and she just sinks her teeth deeper before she lets go. He pulls his arm back and is looking at her, wondering if she’s lost her damn mind from the stress of this horror show, when the door opens and three men, including David, walk through.
The sight of blood on her mouth makes the men pause.
But only for a second.
