Pulling herself up and out of your arms, she turns to search for her discarded pants. You watch, reluctantly as she redresses, lounging back on the pillows. Sitting down on the edge of the bed to pull on her boots, you see an opening to slide up behind her. Hand gently wrapping around her shoulders, body sliding behind hers, your lips find the skin at the back of her neck. You breathe her in as you murmur into her hair. “But you are leaving. I’ll be so cold and lonely.”

Caitlyn panicked, feeling extraordinarily unprepared having been thrust into her new position without so much as even a handbook to consult. What were the formalities? What was she supposed to respond with? Where was the damn push to talk button…
“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”

Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

“Can you…” His voice sounds thin. He clears his throat and tries again. Lower, more demanding. “I think you owe me.”
You blink. “I’m sorry?” One of his hands slams past your shoulder into the wall.
“I think… you owe me.” He repeats thickly. Whatever side effect he complained about is taking a toll on his body. He’s so warm you can feel the heat radiating through his suit. You shift against the wall. You’re no fool but decide to play as one. It may be the safest option.
“I don’t have any money,” You begin to apologize. The hand on the wall tilts toward you, something sharp catches your sleeve.
“Come on, you’re smarter than that.” You want to roll your eyes but don’t dare to look away from the streaks on the mask. He’s just behind them, watching. Assessing. Waiting. “A pretty girl like you has better resources than cash.” The back of your neck prickles. Desperation still writhes on the surface of his words, but there’s more control now. He’s goading you. Trying to see if you’ll rise to the challenge, give the go-ahead.
He did save your life, after all.
