His vision was blurring, entirely from the lack of sleep and the alcohol, and nothing at all to do with the way his eyes were burning, throat thickening at the thought of Steve, at the thought of everything that had happened. He opened the contacts, chewed his lip hard at the one name there, mocking him. Before he could stop himself, almost without thinking it, he typed in a text, thumb pounding against the keys.”

Set post-Civil War. What if Tony and Steve hadn’t exactly been incommunicado all that time between Civil War and Infinity War? After a bad day, and one too many drinks, Tony ends up texting Steve. And after that first text, it’s too easy to just... keep texting. In which the boys finally learn to be adults and talk, and realize just how much they love each other along the way. Something of a CW fixit. (Fair warning: I love both these idiots with all my heart. If you’re looking for Steve bashing or, for that matter, Tony bashing, this is not the story for you).

“Finish it,” Tony tells him, face bruised, chest broken, and heart just … gone.
It has been ripped out by the roots again, like it had been once before not so long ago, on a couch in Malibu, with a familiar buzzing in Tony’s ears and betrayal high and sick in his throat.
And Tony doesn’t want to feel like this again, didn’t want any of the things that led to this.
Hadn’t wanted them right from the start.
All Tony had wanted was to keep their family safe.
Just like all he really wants Steve to do right now is stop.

Summary
“Why are you here.” For once, Tony couldn’t stop his venomous tongue, words biting through the tense air of the night like a python, finally snapping at it’s stalked prey. Though said python was snapping not at all at a mouse, but rather a highly trained super-spy.
The moonlight reflected off of that metal arm, bringing it to further attention. Tony refused to look at it.
Barnes didn’t answer right away, which further irritated Tony. He was only met with a slow, sluggish blink, and a hard swallow for several seconds.
“Why are you?” A voice like gravel responded, rough from what? Screaming? Tony could only imagine the kind of nightmares he had.
