Summary
For one, singular, blissful moment, nothing is wrong when Ilya wakes up.
And then the bubble pops.
With something less like a pinprick and more like a gunshot.
--
After Ilya is outed he has to deal with being the only openly queer player in the league, being Russian, and being in love with Hollander even after he ran away all at once. It sucks. He does it anyway.

Summary
Groundhog Day AU
***
At the faceoff, Rozanov always chirps at him, and Shane never bothers with a response.
“Pity you didn’t show up for the first period, Hollander.”
“Zero points today. Getting tired already, Hollander?”
“No goal on the power play, such a shame, Hollander.”
“How do you say ‘Sorry for losing’ in French, Hollander?”
Rozanov is — relentless, Shane will give him that. And Shane is — tired, mostly.
“How do you get even more insufferable with each day?” he mutters under his breath one day. Rozanov looks up from the puck sharply. Shane wins the faceoff.

Summary
Farah, Shane, and his mom have a statement drafted by the end of the first period of the Boston v. Toronto game. By the time the Raiders are done showering and are pulled for post-game press, everyone with even a passing interest in professional hockey knows that Shane Hollander is an Unrestricted Free Agent looking for a new team.
Shane watched live as Ilya blinked stupidly, took a few seconds to process, and then quickly answered into the mic. This interview would gain millions of views over the coming months and would be cited as the source of the most chaotic social media rollercoaster the MLH ever had.
No one knew it then, but the Great MLH Seduction had officially begun.
*****
Or: Ilya stays with the Boston Raiders instead of trading to Ottawa. This causes quite a few ripples when Shane finally ends his contract with Montreal.
Featuring: the Hollander Family's Spreadsheets(TM), professional hockey culture shifts, and a tasteful amount of fraud against the MLH.

Summary
"We're setting you up with a billet situation," Fletcher continued. "It's pretty common for first-year players, especially international guys. Gives you a chance to settle in, learn the city, have someone looking out for you."
"Okay," Ilya said slowly, not entirely sure what a billet was, but not wanting to admit his ignorance.
He could guess from the context – he’d heard of rookies being assigned to live with older single players, veterans who could show them the ropes. Maybe that was what Fletcher meant. Connors maybe, he was probably a handful of years older than Ilya. Or perhaps Becker. Ilya just hoped it was someone who–
"You'll be staying with Nikolai Petrov and his family."
The words hit Ilya like a punch to the gut. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
"Petrov?" he managed, his voice coming out strangled.
__________________________________________________________________The Bears decide that Ilya should be set up with a billet for his first season. The idea of spending a year living with a man that Ilya is sure hates him is completely terrifying. And yet, it ends up being the best thing to ever happen to him.

Summary
Ilya’s dad dies right before the 2017 All-Star Game, so he never learns that Shane and Rose broke up. While he’s in Russia, a threat from his brother makes him ask Svetlana for help and marry her so he can get a US green card—it’s meant to be a discreet, simple thing, but the Boston tabloids get a hold of it and then it’s all over social media. Three months later, Shane Hollander holds a press conference to share two things: he's leaving Montreal to play for the Ottawa Centaurs, and he's gay.
