Summary
When Izuku pushed his way out the front door of the 1-A dorm building, he wasn’t expecting anything from his afternoon other than a pleasant visit at home with his mother. Maybe he would be lucky enough to catch a sighting of heroes out on patrol or treat himself to a bubble tea. Or maybe, if he was feeling particularly whole and brave, he’d finally walk by his old school and make rude gestures at the ugly, utilitarian building like he’d always secretly longed to do.
But when he got home, there was no comfort in the familiar stubby fingers that were so like his own. This time when he reached out to her, his mother didn’t squeeze his hand in return. Her hand didn’t reach to push his bangs out of his eyes while scolding him for needing a haircut, and her fingers weren't tapping along to the beat of a song in her head because they couldn’t.
Because his mother, impossible though it seemed, was dead.

Summary
The first person to notice Anko was Orochimaru.
She impressed him, and had no way of knowing that his admiration was so insidious. She wished to every star in the sky that she could have the chance to go back in time and stop herself, make her skills just a little less dazzling. Maybe then he would have left her alone and whole.
Yeah, she was bitter. She had a right to be.

Summary
Kakashi was both six years old and a chunin the first time he went hungry.
He’d never been seriously hungry before. His upbringing had been unconventional, to say the least (the big hint there was a six year old being made a chunin), but the staying fed side of things had always been covered by his father. There were other essential bits of childhood, though, that had definitely been more of a learning curve for him.
“Where’s your mom?” a blonde boy lisped at him one day at the park.
“What’s a mom?” Kakashi replied, totally lost.

Summary
The years passed and nobody noticed that Fuyumi was exhausted and drowning. She missed her mother. She ached for someone, anyone, to notice her and reach out their hand to save her.
"Why do you stay here? Why don't you just leave, and be happy?"
“Someone sane has to be here for Shouto,” she said, and placed her feet solidly on the kitchen tile. “Somebody has to be a witness.”

Yaoyorozu Momo understood obligation. She had been raised in an environment steeped in honor and duty. For all of that, she still fucking hated her hero uniform.

Summary
When Naruto is kidnapped from his orphanage at age three, Kakashi is so done with this shit. He gets Naruto back, tells the Hokage where to go (politely, because he isn't suicidal), and raises the boy himself. Or, you know, tries and is proud when there aren't too many explosions.
Then everybody starts to copy him and it's a whole thing.

Summary
“Wait, were you spying on me?” Iruka gasped.
Kakashi sat down on the stool next to Iruka's. “Such an ugly term. I prefer to think of it as friendly, near constant observation.”

Summary
"Iruka opened his eyes and blinked at the rough wood that seemed to be encasing him. Wildly, his first thought was that he was in a coffin. He couldn’t understand it. Just a moment ago, he’d been in his old family house with Kakashi, wedding bands on their fingers, and Naruto had been standing in the sunny yellow kitchen. Then there was a bright flash of light, and he woke up."
Or, what happens after the war.

Summary
Set immediately after the Pein arc. "He knew from drills at the Academy that they had limited supplies tucked away in caves, but for all intents and purposes, Konoha would be starting from scratch. There wouldn’t be enough supplies, not for all the shinobi and the civilians, and the civilians came first. A lot of people were going to go hungry. Iruka’s heart seized at thinking of Naruto hungry, of his students hungry.
Well. He’d just have to do everything he could to prevent that from happening. After all, he’d been hungry before. He knew how to bear it."

Summary
Hinata had never really considered herself to be a religious person. So when three women wearing strange kimono and glowing a little around the edges showed up as she was bleeding out while on a solo mission, her first instinct was to do a quick kai to break the genjutsu she was obviously under.
Or, that Naruto/A Wrinkle in Time crossover you never knew you needed.

Summary
"When he looked back on it later, Iruka’s prevailing memory of the first few years after the Kyuubi attack wasn’t even really a feeling, but rather a sensation: hunger."
After growing up alone and hungry, Iruka is very careful to live his life under the radar, even while he remembers the dog-masked Anbu who saved him. He's irate when he's forced to teach a certain jinchuriki in his classroom and wants nothing to do with the brat. Then he notices the worst thing in the world: Uzumaki Naruto is hungry.
