Summary
The Dead Boy Detectives are back in London, but the events from their time in Port Townsend still weigh heavy on them. Charles, confused about Edwin's confession and hurt by Crystal's rejection, continues to bottle up his feelings and put on a happy face for the two people he definitely thinks of as just friends. Edwin thinks Charles might need space, and, when Charles rejects his theory about Niko, feels inclined to give it to him. When Edwin seeks outside help for his new case, he learns to stand on his own while Charles begins to realize just how much he needs to have Edwin around.

Charles thought it’d be grand, a revelation that stopped him and the world in its tracks as if hit by the biggest bloody vehicle possible. He thought it would come to him all at once – the feeling, the voice, the sense. Maybe it’d be while they were alone, somewhere scenic or romantic or both. Somewhere different, feeling different.
Love, Charles learned, did not work like that. At least, not for him.

Edwin did not have any expectations set. He had pushed the thought of it aside his whole life, left to accept a life of solitude and no meaningful attachments. He didn’t have friends in school, so he certainly did not have any romantic contenders. If Edwin were to think about feeling that way, it’d be an impossible thought.
