It’s a Wednesday, and Tommy wakes up grinning.
He’s been doing that most days now – waking up with the sun in his eyes and a smile curved into his face. It’s weird, sure, but he’s happy, and everything is good, so he’s not really complaining. It’s good to wake up content for a change. It’s a nice way to start the day.
It's nicer when he figures out why.

“Okay, okay. Breathe.” Wilbur soothes. He sets down the cages in the grass and puts two hands on Tommy’s shoulders. “Can I see?” Tommy stares at him. “I can help, I promise. I work in the town’s aviary. I’ve done this my whole life. I promise I won’t hurt you.”
Tommy hesitates. He needs to deliver this mail. But, he can’t do his job if he can’t fly. “Okay,” he allows.
