Tommy puts the finishing touches on the cocktail—he’s added a little decorative spiral of lemon peel this time—and saunters back over, leaning dangerously close to Spencer as he places the glass between his two fidgeting hands. “And what would that be?”
Spencer chokes, coughs, clears his throat again. “Competence,” he says, barely above a whisper. “Competence and… attention to detail.”

“We cannot fucking lose,” Tommy stresses to Spencer. They're in a good spot now, standing on the couch, and they've both just finished another beer. Spencer nods wildly, his cheeks flushed, glasses and hat both askew. Tommy resists the urge to reach out and right them for him.
Shayne begins to shake a die in his hand, Tommy locks eyes with Spencer, time slows down.
“I would rather share one lifetime with you-” Spencer begins desperately, the reflection of the Christmas tree lights dancing in his eyes. Shayne throws the die.
“-than face all the ages of this world alone.” Tommy finishes breathlessly as the die rolls across the table. Spencer's lips slowly curl up in a grin.

“I was betting on you having a jacket.” Tommy confessed, not a hint of hesitation or regret as he spoke with a slightly cocky tone. Spencer did almost always have a spare for Tommy.
“Not everything revolves around you, Tommy Bowe." Spencer inhaled sharply, shrugging his shoulders. He could laugh at the irony, because everything in his world did revolve around Tommy Bowe.
