“But I thought the whole idea was that God didn’t make mistakes?” Simon’s voice challenged him, his hand lifting Wille’s head to allow their eyes to meet, eyes watery, begging, pleading with him not to do what they both knew he was trying to.
“My parents certainly seem to think he made one with me,” Wille instinctively leaned into Simon’s touch, the tears still trickling down his cheeks wiped away by Simon’s thumb.
Simon hummed softly, “They’re wrong then,” he pressed a kiss to Wille’s hand, reciting what Wille distantly recognized as a verse from Song of Solomon, “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you,” his voice dropped to almost a whisper, “You’re not a mistake, Wille.”
Honor thy father and mother
There was no room for queerness in the version of Wille’s life that his parents had demanded from him. The contract he had signed, agreeing to deny his sexuality, chained him to their faith - to their ideals of religion. But how could he kneel before God when his soul ached to worship at the temple of Simon’s body; with his hands, his tongue? For what was worship if not holy, sacred addiction? What was love if not a free fall from heaven into hell?
