When the laptop was still warm from the movie or show, and Nerissa’s breathing had become slow and even. She slept with her hands clasped in front of her mouth. Her horn threatened to take Gigi’s eye out if she twitched too aggressively.
Gigi thought, with the simplicity reserved for loving things, that she was the prettiest thing they’d ever seen. Their mouth would curl over the contours of Nerissa’s name, and they’d wish they could hear the sound. But Nerissa would shift, mumbling something in the haze of sleep, and Gigi would lie there. Quiet. Enough in love for it to hurt.
