Goro finally glances over at them from across the bar, oh-so-casually. He raises his glass to Ren in the smallest of salutes, with the smallest of smirks, and then settles his attention firmly back on the woman he’s sitting next to.
“He knows we’re here,” Ren announces. He’s probably known for a while. Embarrassing.
“Damn it,” Ryuji shares a weary look with Ann. “Guess that’s it then. I’ll grab the first round.”

Summary
Ren is biting his lip, clearly on the cusp of something, but Goro doesn't have all night. He has sleep to catch up on, final preparations of his own to make. A short list of things he wants to take care of while he has the chance. He gives Ren one final glance, sighs, turns around to leave.
So then of course Ren chooses that very moment to look up at him with those eyes, so sad and conflicted that he has to be faking it. No one has ever felt sad over Goro, and Ren of all people shouldn't feel like that.
He really, really shouldn't.
Ren opens his mouth. Closes it. Opens it again. "Do you wanna sleep here?" he says, way too quickly.
Goro's grand thoughts about life and death grind to an immediate halt to make way for this brand new crisis.
They stare at each other for an uncomfortably long time. Neither of them make a move. Ren has this stupid expectant look on his face, like he still thinks something good might come of this.
"What on earth," Goro says slowly, his head spinning, "do you think would possess me to agree to something like that?"

Summary
"Did you know that tomorrow's full moon is a blood moon?" Goro says, apropos of nothing.
"Nope." Ren glances back up at the moon again. Its familiar cratered face gazes back at him patiently, but all of a sudden he feels like he's seeing it in all its loveliness for the first time. "...Are you looking at it right now?"
"Do you want me to be?" Goro shoots back, the playful dip of his voice sending Ren's stomach swooping. Do you want me to be? God, he's such an asshole.
Ren wishes Goro could hear him roll his eyes over the phone. "It's a yes or no question."
He hears rustling, and then footsteps. "Yes, I'm looking at it, too," Goro says softly.

Summary
It's a long ride to the cemetery, but Ren doesn't mind.
In his backpack, he carries the flowers and the incense he was entrusted with, carefully stowed away from the biting wind that whips around them. In front of him, Goro navigates the winding mountain roads with confidence, accelerating into the hairpin turns even as the motor of the little scooter strains and groans under his demands. Ren leans with him and wraps his arms tighter around Goro's waist, shielded by his body from the worst of the wind chill.
Ren knows it's supposed to be somber, visiting the grave of a loved one, but his heart feels as light as the clear blue sky. He and Goro have been together for a year and a half, and he's finally going to get to meet Goro's mom.
