Kim isn't entirely sure what Harry and Jean's relationship was like before Martinaise. Harry certainly isn't any better off in that regard. And Jean can't really settle on what things are going to be like from now on. Perhaps, with a bit of time, they can all work it out.

AUTHORITY: He trails off when Kim turns to look at him.
ENDURANCE: I don’t think you know what you’re getting into, Jean concludes in his head.

Summary
Kim calls Harry when he’s drinking.
Most of the time, you call him sober, late at night after looking over your case notes out on your balcony, smoking a cigarette and staring down into the dark courtyard. “Kim,” he’ll say, voice deep in your ear. Often, the radio in the background of his apartment, always playing something different, as he rediscovers his tapes. Disco and rock and jazz and, once - which you ask him to turn down - Iilmaran throat-singing. Or, you will call him when you listen to WEATHER FM at night and find the weather will be bad the following day. You tell him, on these calls, that you will pick him up in the morning. Often, when you do, you find he has gone down to the corner kiosk and picked you up a newspaper, or gotten the two of you pastries, and he will be drenched, which defeats the purpose of picking him up. You tell him this, and he just winks at you.

Harry has a rough night. Kim comes by in the morning. Maybe they’ll get pancakes later, but for now, there’s hand-holding and the radio to get them through.
SHIVERS: A man in an orange jacket descends the steps to your basement apartment, stepping into gloom. He knocks firmly, then takes a half-step back, hands behind his back.
HALF LIGHT: If you stay very still, he won’t know you’re here.
PERCEPTION: The radio plays, soft and low.
SHIVERS: The man shifts and looks at the closed door. He can hear something faint - the radio, maybe. No sign of movement.
LOGIC: Maybe he’s gone out, Kim thinks, and half-turns to look behind him at the street, as if he might see you there.
COMPOSURE: He can’t see us like this. He’ll be so disappointed…
