Summary
"He feels his body tense but he doesn't move away. There was a time when he would have, but he's learned that Carol's proximity, Carol's touch is nothing to shy away from. It's always kind, gentle, sometimes teasing, but even then he doesn't mind it so much. Some days he even feels on the verge of not just not flinching at it, but actually accepting it, welcoming it, maybe even initiating it himself."
*A retelling of Caryl's story during Seasons 4 and 5.
*November 2025 update: not abandoned, just on break until I can get my brain back on track. Only death, coma or crippling disability will stop me from finishing this fic.*

Summary
You idiot, she had said. Don't you know anything? He doesn't. He keeps looking out the window, even though there's nothing to see, because he can't look at her. He stays silent, letting the quiet envelop him, because he can't talk to her. The emptiness settles inside and he allows himself to feel the weight of it. He deserves that emptiness. He doesn't deserve her.
***
This starts as an alternate ending of S6E8, in which Astrid does not die. And, of course, Quinn doesn't die either. This will be a Quinn/Astrid story with an eventual happy ending. If you’re reading, thank you!

Otto is not romantically interested in Carrie. There is no jihadist sarin gas plot.Parts Two And Three:
The plot is sort of an alternate version of S6 and S7, reimagined without Quinn having been exposed to sarin gas and being, you know, alive.COMPLETE
