Summary
Ann doesn’t stop, just pulls out her keys and fumbles with the lock, jaw set tight. Catherine huffs out a breath, frustration curling hot in her gut, and strides up behind her, reaching out to catch Ann’s wrist before she can push the door open.
“Would you just talk to me?” Catherine snaps, her voice sharper than she intended.
Ann whirls around, eyes flashing with something fierce and wounded all at once. “Jesus, why do you care?”
The question makes Catherine stop short, like she’s been punched in the chest. “What?”
Ann huffs, shaking her head, her expression twisting into something bitter. “Forget it.”
She tries to turn back to the door, but Catherine doesn’t let go, keeping her grip on Ann’s wrist firm but not tight. “Ann.”
Ann goes still, and for a moment, they just stand there, inches apart, Catherine’s hand on her wrist like a tether holding her in place. Ann’s breathing is uneven, her eyes fixed on the ground, and Catherine can feel the way she’s trembling, just faintly.

Tara sits cross-legged beside her, flipping idly through a book Willow can tell she isn’t reading, because every few seconds, Tara glances at her, then looks away again before Willow can catch her at it. It’s kinda really cute.
Okay, she maybe shouldn’t think that. Except she does. And it is.
“You—um.” Tara clears her throat. “You, uh, comfy?”
Willow grins, tucking her chin against her shoulder as she shifts against the pillows. “Very.” She hesitates, glancing at Tara from under her lashes. “You sure you don’t want this back?”
Tara shakes her head too quickly. “No! I mean… y-you’re still, um, still wearing it, so.”
Now that’s an interesting answer. Not a 'no, I don’t need it'. Not even a 'you’re still cold'. Just 'you’re still wearing it', like that explains everything. Like that’s the reason Tara doesn’t want it back. Which… okay, wow, no, she’s not thinking about this too hard, not even a little. She’s also definitely not thinking about how Tara’s hands flex over the book in her lap, fingers twisting around the edges of the pages. Or how Tara keeps glancing at her mouth.

“Do you ever miss the stars?” Ariana asks softly, her voice breaking the gentle rhythm of their breaths.
Leonara glances at her, a flicker of curiosity in her golden eyes. “The stars?”
“From Tevinter. I wonder if they look different there.”
Leonara’s expression softens, her gaze drifting skyward. For a moment, she seems far away, caught between memory and the present. “They do. Brighter, perhaps. Or maybe I only remember them that way because for a while they were all I could look to for peace.”
Ariana’s chest tightens, her throat thick with unspoken words. She wants to offer comfort, to chase away the shadows that linger in Leonara’s voice, but she knows Leonara doesn’t need rescuing. Not now.
“I think they look brighter here,” Leonara adds, her voice quieter, tinged with something vulnerable. “Maybe because I want them to.”

Ariana looks at her, her heart aching with a mixture of gratitude and longing. "How do you always know what to say?"
Ashanna smiles faintly, though it doesn’t quite reach her eyes. "I don’t. I just... I know you, Ari. Better than anyone, I think."
The words hang in the air between them, heavy with unspoken meaning. Ariana feels her breath catch, her pulse quickening as she meets Ashanna’s gaze. There’s a depth there, a raw, unguarded emotion that she’s never seen before, and it sends a shiver through her.
"Do you?" she asks softly, her voice trembling.
Ashanna hesitates, her hand twitching as though she wants to reach out but doesn’t dare. "I’d like to think so."
Ariana doesn’t know what to say, doesn’t know how to untangle the mess of emotions swirling inside her. All she knows is that in this moment, with Ashanna so close, she feels more seen, more understood, than she ever has with Zatrien.
