Nearly one year later, he runs a tight ship on his farm. Summary
Barok had never liked surprise visits, even when he was young. He’d always felt cornered, with no time to gather the manners and etiquette lessons instilled in him. But there are some things that can be considered a brother’s privilege, especially when brothers are on very good terms, and Klint considers a surprise home visit to go beyond that: ensuring his little brother is taken care of for the long term with this new flatmate and heat partner is his God-given right.
Klint wants to scope out Barok’s new heat partner and flatmate, not expecting a completely normal person to be exactly what they all needed.

Summary
It’s not often that Ryunosuke gets petulant. Like right now: he sinks himself further into the cushions of the sofa, trying to bury his face beneath the hem of the blanket like a child clearly sulking after wanting to do something nice for their grownup. It almost makes him look like a mascot from food packaging. That one round-faced girl with the pigtails licking her lips from the confectionery company comes to mind.
For the most part, Barok would definitely find this kind of behavior off-putting; somehow, when it’s Ryunosuke, he finds it annoyingly endearing.
Barok comes home to Ryunosuke sick to his stomach, but can’t help but forgive it when he finds out why.

“Please,” Kazuma persists. “Please, you have to know something about this. Can you at least tell me who might have done this to me?”
The corner of Barok’s mouth quirks up in a tight, cruel smile. “If I had to guess, Kazuma Asougi, I would say that you did this to yourself.”
Kazuma tenses at the accusation. His hand clenches next to his hip as though he has instinctively reached to draw a sword. His spirit has none to draw, of course, making the gesture a futile one. He relaxes, then, his anger at the accusation a passing storm.
“At least tell me who you are,” he says. “Why can you see me when no one else can?”
Barok tilts his head, curious. “I am the Reaper of the Bailey.”
