    "When you and Johanna are on tour, you need to smile. You need to be grateful. But above all you need to be madly, prepared to end it all in love. Do you think you can manage that?"

    "Yes," I nod without thought. In honesty I'm not as confident in that statement as I'd like, but we've done it before. I just have to hope she doesn't hate me so much we can't do it again.

    No matter my answer, it's clear Snow has no more confidence in my statement than I do, because he's leaning forward in his chair again. "Yes what?" He asks sternly.

    "I'll convince them."

    "No, Miss Everdeen," he says, "convince me."

    "Do me a favour.” I say, hopping down from the ledge and straightening my back to loom over her,
    “Stay outta my way in there. I don’t entirely mind you. Which is rare for me, so I’d rather not have to be the one to put you down.” Again, it comes out far easier than I’d like and I have to step past her and strut back towards the elevator to hide the grimace forming on my face. But it must land how I wanted it to because I hear her call back after me.

    “Well, shit, that almost sounded like you like me.”

    The stains wouldn’t come out. They never did, the dyes used in the factory were of the highest quality. Liv couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen the bare skin of her hands and forearms. They came in every colour- magenta, lilac, cerulean, emerald green, crimson, white, bright, sunny yellow. A stark contrast from the fabrics they used here in the district. Their clothes were muddy brown, grey, worn out black, unprocessed white cotton turned yellow from wear and washing. Those colours weren’t for them to have. They could make them, they could wear them on their skin, earned from hours of labour at the factories, but they could never own them.

    There were seventy five Hunger Games in the history of Panem. One thousand eight hundred and two tributes, each with their own stories, their own experiences, their own fears and tragedies. Olivia is one of them, an orphan of District 8, textiles. The 72nd Hunger Games are about to start. Life has always been shitty, so how surprising could this be, really? But maybe she can find purpose along the way. That would be good, she hasn't had any in a long time.
