Summary
"No one is denying that Christopher is an amazing boy," Ramon sighed, as though he thought Eddie was being particularly difficult.
"Especially considering everything he's been put through," his mother was quick to add with a pointed look in his direction, one that put his already fried nerves on end.
It appeared that Buck had also picked up on his parents' not so discreet tones, because Eddie could see the moment that his friend's mild agitation grew to complete frustration towards his parents. "No, he's an amazing kid because of Eddie's great parenting. Not in spite of it."
"This is really a family conversation-"
"Why are you so defensive every time I say your son's a good dad? It's like you want him to fail. Why?"
Or: 5 times Buck let Eddie know that he's a good Dad, + 1 time Eddie actually believed it. Which only took Buck coming on a surprise visit to El Paso to accomplish.

you haunt me in my dreams,
just when i think it's all okay,

Summary
St. Anthony’s was his last chance, and Evan knew that. He had been kicked out of five schools in the past six years, and after his sophomore year ended with a meeting between his parents and his last headmaster that could be summarized with: “we’re not kicking him out, but just know that Evan is not welcome back in September.” His parents wanted to send him to military school.
Evan knew he couldn’t survive military school, that would be his last drop, the one that finally shattered the vase. He couldn’t be the type of person that would be able to put himself back together once they broke him down.
This had to work.
. . .
Buck is the new kid in an El Paso boarding school, trying his best to stay out of trouble. Eddie is a rockstar (in the world of high school popularity) he's captain to the football team, he's dating the most popular girl in school, and looking at a full ride sports scholarship in the fall. He should feel like he won at life, which is why he doesn't understand why the only time he feels alive is when he catches a glimpse of the new guy on the running team.
Or in simpler terms: Buddie high-school AU!

Summary
Buck leans into Eddie’s touch, just for a second, before clearing his throat. “They want me to take temporary emergency custody. Just until better arrangements are made.”
The loft falls eerily silent. It would be almost comical, the way the entire team has simultaneously held their breath, if he didn’t feel like a lead weight was resting on his shoulders.
Hen, ever pragmatic, is the first to recover. She looks at him with an expression Buck can only call cautious, gentle and kind around the edges. “Temporary?”
“I couldn’t abandon her.” He can feel something just behind his teeth, waiting to spill out, but he can’t quite name it. “Not if I could do something about it.”
(or, buck fosters a traumatised teen and together they start to heal.)

Summary
“What’s your last name, then?” Buck prompts. He doesn’t know what to say, how to keep this going, but he knows he’s not ready for the conversation to end.
“Diaz.”
Diaz. Diaz. Diaz. Buck rolls the name over in his mind. He likes the sound of it.
“Do people ever call you Diaz?”
“Not if they want me to respond.” He smiles at Buck then, a real smile that shows off his slightly crooked teeth. His eyes are a warm, dark brown that makes Buck’s head feel a little like soup.
Well, shit, Buck thinks.
