"If I were from Mondstadt, what would my name be?" His voice brought me back to reality. I looked at him, pausing to think for a moment.
"I don't know, maybe Alfred?" I laughed quietly, realizing how ridiculous it sounded. In truth, I couldn't imagine him as anyone else. To me, he was simply Ayato. The one who always does everything to meet expectations, who would give up his life for his sister, and who saved me without even knowing my name. The one I wanted to stay with for the rest of my life.
"Alfred? Why Alfred?" He gave me a gentle smile.
"Because it starts with the same letter as 'Ayato,'" I replied, tilting my head back. I heard him chuckle softly.
"What about me? What would my name be if I had been born in Inazuma?" I asked, looking back at him. He suddenly fell silent, as if he was thinking about the answer.
"Thoma," he finally answered confidently, staring at the horizon. "Because you are already one of us, even though you have a different background. You have both eternity and freedom within you, combining them to create something completely new. You have what no one else has," he paused for a moment, closing his eyes.

Summary
It was really hard for Toya to get attached to someone. He didn’t have a bond with any of his family members, he didn’t really care about making friends among his classmates. Honestly speaking, until then the only people he could call important were Tsukasa and Saki, who were more like siblings to him than his actual siblings. And god, he wished things stayed as they were, but there he was: tired, sad, hopeless, and praying that he won’t wake up tomorrow. And everything because he let one ginger into his life.
Basically author self projecting onto Aoyagi Toya and venting.
