Akira’s off like a bullet, weaving through the crowd toward where he knows he saw Akechi Goro.
When Akira manages to push his way through, though, he’s gone. There’s no trace that he was ever there, either, vanished like he’d never existed in the first place.
He shouldn’t have existed here and now. He should be dead.
Akira just stands there, in everyone’s way, mouth dry and blood pounding in his ears. He can’t help but feel like he’s missed some one-time chance to fix something. Or, maybe, like he’d just torn off the bandage keeping an open wound from bleeding all over the place and then lost his justification for it.
