Summary
The snow is falling on Christmas for once, and the trees are glistening, but Henry can’t get out of bed. He’s scared to look at the pictures his phone tells him Alex just posted. Scared that he will see how happy Alex is without him. Terrified that he will see her in the pictures of the Claremont-Diaz festivities.
The colorful lights are shining outside Henry’s window and he can’t move his head from his pillow because he hasn’t talked to the love of his life in four months.

Summary
Realistically, Henry knows that being brought up in a ‘decorum and appearances are everything’ environment has done a number on him, and probably traumatized him more than he cares to admit. He knows he gets easily embarrassed by mundane, everyday things that other people don’t think twice about.
Knowing it, though, doesn’t make Henry’s current predicament any easier.

Damen did not resent that Laurent needed his time. Damen, of course, would take a knife to the gut before he left Laurent alone after any sort of bedplay where he was giving the orders, but that was Laurent. Damen had done this sort of thing before, and was accustomed to it, and did not need coddling, in any case, until or unless Laurent wanted to give it. So Damen was going to stay still, and count, and not be foolish.

Summary
Alex frantically unlocks his phone and stares at their text thread, at the heart reaction that Henry had left on his most recent message. His thumbs hover uselessly over his screen, trembling as moisture burns his vision. The entire room is thick with uneasiness, heavy enough that it’s hard to breathe, and Alex wants to tell Henry something, wants to reach out and find the solace that Henry so often offers him without even realizing it.
But mostly, as his brain finally catches up to what’s actually happening, all Alex can think is that he doesn’t want to die.
He tries to come up with a list of reasons why in his head, a comprehensive one that probably should include family and career goals and a million other things, but in the end, in the moment, all he can fucking think about is Henry.

Summary
Damen's back burns with an unrelenting fury. Blood drips to the floor and pools beneath his bare feet. He's slipped more times than he can count, his hip crashing again and again into the whipping post they've bound him to.
It'll stain, he thinks blearily through the haze. It'll soak so deep into the porous concrete that nothing will ever be able to get the discoloration out. The entire warehouse will need to be renovated to hide what happened here.

Damen looked up. Laurent’s gaze was level, and very blue.
“Broadly,” Laurent said, “is it the pain? Or the being told what to do?”
And suddenly Damen was finding it very hard to breathe. Laurent simply waited him out, his gaze fixed on Damen’s face. Damen couldn’t help remembering Nik’s description from last weekend. High alert.
“Both,” he said finally. Laurent gave a short nod, like he was filing that away. “And…”
“And what?”
Damen licked his lips. “And you, I think.”
This time the wash of pink over Laurent’s cheeks was unmistakable. Damen reveled in it, even as he fought the urge to squirm at his own confession.
“Noted,” Laurent said, very evenly.
