Summary
“Fuck, I’m the interim captain,” he heaves. “W-we… I can’t...” he says weakly, trying to motion between them and the entire office.
Eddie doesn’t seem to be feeling the same kind of panic, or any kind of panic, at all. He looks peaceful. “You deserve the entire world,” he says softly, directly to Buck’s eyes.
Buck has half a mind to stop Eddie. “What about-” he tries to say, but is cut off with a moan. “What about the chain of command?” He gets out.
“Fuck the chain of command,” Eddie says certainly, giving no room for argument. And maybe, just maybe, he really is affected just as much as Buck, if he’s willing to go against his precious chain of command.
“Firefighter Diaz…” Buck intends the words to sound commanding, warning, and even, but misses by a mile. They come out as more of a pet name. Breathless, shaky, and loving.
or: Buck spirals about being chosen as the interim captain of the 118. Eddie spirals to his knees. In front of Buck. Making sure he understands just how much the title is deserved.

Summary
“They say humans kill or destroy what they’re afraid of, and I’m no different,” Buck says sadly.
“Oh Buck… No, you’re not,” Eddie tries to comfort Buck, even if he’s not fully sure what is unraveling in front of his eyes.
A tear spills down Buck's cheek. “Yes, I am. That’s exactly what happened, Eddie,” his voice wobbles. “I took one look at the innocent spider, and I got scared, so I killed him.”
Before he can process his feelings properly, words come out of his mouth. “I love you so much,” Eddie breathes out.
OR: Buck kills a spider and has big feelings about it. Eddie has even bigger ones.

Summary
Edmundo ‘Eddie’ Diaz is losing a chess match to a dog, an elephant is staring at him, and the worst part of all this is that it’s all his fault. Well, not all. Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley definitely played a part.
He acts before he can think better of it.
He tries to tame the elephant.
He remembers Buck telling him that elephants are highly intelligent and empathetic.
So he stands before it and makes, what he hopes are calming moves with his hands as he approaches the animal.
“I just realized I’m gay and in love with my best friend. So, you need to calm down so that I can survive, get back to him, and kiss him. But you need to chill and get back,” he tells the elephant.
OR: Eddie has dinner with his parents, learns to play chess, tries to tame an elephant... You know, normal stuff. But he does have some big realizations along the way.

Summary
“Forgive me father, for I have sinned,” he spoke confidently. He might not have much to be confident about right now, but one thing he knew for certain was that he had sinned. “It has been…probably since middle school, since I last confessed.”
At the time, it seemed like the best idea to stop going to church when he started high school. He veiled it in his age and maturity when his parents asked for a reason. He pushed his hands, that trembled at the thought of confessions, since one sunny evening in middle school, into his pockets.
Now confessing to losing his son, he wondered about that sunny evening. If he confessed truthfully, would his hands stop trembling? Would Christopher still be here? Would the silence be filled with nightingales?
OR: Eddie and Buck navigate their increasingly complicated feelings, emphasized by the tension of Chris and, subsequently, Eddie leaving for El Paso, Texas. However, 5 times their most crucial interactions are unknowingly borrowed from other queer couples, and 1 time they are the queer couple.

Summary
“Hey, Ravi,” Buck engages eye contact with him. And oh, no. Nothing truly good has started with Buck saying, ‘Hey, Ravi.’
Surely, Buck has grown a lot in the time since he last ‘Hey, Ravied’ him into considering early retirement.
"You watch F1, right?”
So maybe Ravi hasn’t given Buck enough credit. He loves F1 and loves talking about it. This shouldn’t and really couldn’t be bad.
“Yes.”
“Right, I remember you talking about it. So could you settle this for Eddie and me? Who is the better driver overall, Max or Carlos?"
“Just out of curiosity, who is your favorite driver and who is Eddie’s?”
Inner Peace. Inner Peace.
His inner peace doesn't survive long after the Buck's answer.
“Are you hearing this shit, Hen?” He laughs incredulously. “Today was going perfectly, and now I lost my inner peace, because THEY are OBLIVIOUS!”
OR: Ravi is having a perfect day, and is intent on keeping it that way, until he learns who Buddie's favorite F1 drivers are, makes a few connections, and crashes out.
