“Hey!”
The man startles up, blinking around before tilting his head up to catch Louis’ gaze. His eyes are wide and innocuous, like a child, and he parts his cherry lips in search of the words on his tongue. In French, jumbled conjugations and a smidge too much of an English accent: “Oui? Tout va bien?”
He shakes his head. And responds, in English: “Yeah, erm— what are you?”
An even more frightened look in return; even the little old landlord passing through the courtyard glances up at him like he’s gone crazy. “ Est-ce que tout se passe bien, Mr Tomlinson?”
“Oui, oui,” Louis says, waving him off with a flick of his wrist before focusing his attention back on the man and his daughters. Come on, he thinks, I’ve got to get this down before I forget. He repeats himself: “What are you?”
Lips spreading into an amused smile now, something sensational, an unbelievably charming smile. Oh god, Louis thinks. He’s probably too charming for his own good. “I’m… um… a person? Is this a trick question?”

Summary
William Deakin był jednym z najsłynniejszych malarzy XVI wieku. Choć malował dla wielkich i bogatych, zapisując się w historii dzięki swojemu oddaniu rzeczywistości, które dla większości graniczyło niemal z grzechem, to jednak nie to spędzało sen z powiek badaczy. Istniała bowiem grupa dzieł, zawsze przestawiająca tą samą osobę — młodego arystokratę, w różnych pozycjach i porach dniach. Była to najbardziej tajemnicza tematyka, ponieważ większość obrazów uległa zniszczeniu.
I to właśnie te dzieła badał nikt inny jak Harry Styles, przygotowujący swoją rozprawę doktorską związaną z dziełami Deakina.
Jednak czy ktoś wspominał, jak podobny do modela był sam Harry i jak wiele wspólnego z tym wszystkim mógł mieć profesor matematyki, którego wiek był o wiele większy, niż wyglądał?

It's been so long since they've done this, hung out, just the two of them, and he doesn't know what to say, smiling, a little sheepishly, when he catches Louis' gaze across the table, and there's something in the creases around Louis' eyes when he smiles back that make him feel like he's still seventeen and the center of Louis' world and it hurts almost as much as politely distant Louis does, just. In a different way.
