“Need isn’t the purpose, witcher,” Jaskier says, emphasizing the last word just enough to let Geralt know he’s peeved at being addressed by something other than his name.
“Then what would be the purpose, bard?” Geralt says the last word with meaning now just to be contrary. After the poet found in him in the spring for a second year of tailing along and being a nuisance, he seems to feel entitled to cordialities Geralt isn’t willing to afford.
“Because it feels good?” The bard says, as if Geralt is missing something obvious.
