Summary
God, it was good to be back in the city. Rick, shouldering two of the artefact-laden saddlebags, followed Evelyn and Jonathan through the fort back to their apartment. His whole body ached, but he was in better shape (he thought) than the two of them. Jonathan’s arm was still in its sling and Evelyn limped on bruised and blistered feet. But they were alive. Rick smiled.

Summary
It was late, nearly midnight, when Rick and Evie returned home from dinner at Mena House: late, and nearly all of the lights were off save for a low light over the back door. Rick parked Jonathan’s car in its lane at the side of the house and turned to Evelyn.
“Thank you for a great night,” he said, giving her that cheeky grin. “Shall I walk you to the door?”
Evie smiled. “Doesn’t a gentleman always see his lady friend safely home?”
A companion piece to "In the Gardens at Mena House".

Summary
She had left Rick and Jonathan to their own devices after Dr. Wilkinson had looked them all over earlier that day; he had prescribed plenty of water and rest after their long, hot trek back from Hamunaptra. Opening her bedroom door, Evie looked around for the men. Jonathan’s bedroom door was closed; he was probably napping. Rick was where Evie had left him earlier, lying on his cot by the window with a couple of ice packs soothing his cracked ribs, head cushioned on a stack of pillows, a book in hand. He looked up as she came into the room.

Summary
The acceptance letter from Somerville College, Oxford, had arrived in the post that morning, offering Evie a place to study for her D.Phil in ancient Egyptian linguistics, and Evie was euphoric. Rick loved it when Evie was euphoric. Her joy was contagious and she was so beautiful. They had broken out a bottle of very expensive champagne to celebrate, and Evie had gotten rather carried away. She didn’t drink often, but when she did…

Summary
Thursday evening, home for the weekend: sometimes Evie really appreciated that her work week only consisted of four days. No more work until Monday, which meant no more lifting and lugging books off of the floors and up ladders and onto their proper shelves. At least she had help: she had not asked him to, but Rick appeared at breakfast every morning to walk her to work and help with the clean-up. Evie rather liked watching him work: he had such a splendid physique; she often found herself distracted by him. It was just one of the perks of being with Rick O’Connell. He was a good man and he was beautiful to look at.
A really rather pointless wallow in two people who love each other learning more about the other.
