“I don’t understand,” Mikasa says very quietly, “why you let him die.”
It’s kinder than saying killed him. Mikasa isn’t a kind person. She’s not particularly sure why she gentles the words at all. Levi certainly isn’t the type of person to appreciate it.
“Yeah,” Levi says at last. His voice is heavy. He sounds tired. Mikasa has already forgotten her initial question. She gropes in her memory for it, finds it in Jean’s overlapping, bewildered voice, too honest and open to be hurtful. “I suppose you wouldn’t.”

She was staring at the lantern, making her mind up about something. Her exhaustion was so palpable she she could have bent the air around her like a candle. When she spoke his skin crawled: it seemed for a moment like he was listening to something ancient—the mountain below him, the black inanimate maw of the ravine on its slow crawl into the distance, cleaving the older, colder earth.
“What would it be like,” she said, “to be right about something that would mean everything else had gone. Terribly wrong.”

Summary
Eren crosses the ocean on the backs of his Colossals.
They can swim; he cannot. This body is too huge, too dense. He has arms but they’re useless. He has legs but they drag after him. He scuttles along the ground on his hundreds of protruding ribs. He feels them puncture the soil, the sand. Rocks scrape against the exposed bone, and when he stands on the blisteringly hot exposed muscle of his Titans, the water steaming up around, it would be enough to char if it weren’t for his healing. He’s kept on the brink of burning, unable to let the heat kill his nerves.
It hurts.
But it only lasts a few hours.
And while the steam still burns, while the pressure on the points of his ribs is odd and painful, now, it is time for others to hurt —
—“Mikasa,” Eren says, shaking her awake. “Mikasa, wake up.”
