Summary
Shane has always had a complicated relationship with his own body.
It’s his biggest tool to success as a hockey player. He wouldn’t be where he is without the trust and care he puts into this own body. So he takes care of it as much as he can. He exercises regularly to keep himself fit and strong, fuels it with the best food and nutrients he can, does his best to listen to the cues his body gives him to rest. It’s a careful balancing act as a professional athlete, stretching his body to its limits while also caring for it deeply.
Still, he can’t deny that he feels let down by it often.
Some days it feels very unfair.
And then some days something even worse happens and that already strained relationship he has with his own body gets even worse.

“Hey.” Ilya Rozanov was leaning over the boards to grin at Shane on the bench, looking unfairly gorgeous even under the blindingly bright LEDs of the arena. “Bet I get more than you.”
Focused on wrapping tape around the blade of his stick, Shane startled out of his thoughts, dropping the roll of tape. “Goals?”
“Yes, Hollander, obviously.” His captain – and husband – huffed out a breath like Shane was being deliberately obtuse.Having left their respective teams, Shane and Ilya play on the Ottawa Centaurs together and lead the team to three playoff series wins. Now that they’re starting the final playoff series, Shane and Ilya are determined to win the Stanley Cup – not just for the team and the city, but for each other.

Ilya’s heart gave a quick, dreadful jerk as he stood there, time passing like a slow rolling current. He shot a glance at the textbook in Shane’s lap again, then held his face smooth, biting his tongue, a worrying tension in the muscles of his forehead and jaw. They’d occasionally call one another pet names in bed, but nothing like that.
Finally, he answered, “Did you like it?”
An immediate blush bloomed across Shane’s face, and he looked away as he closed the textbook.
“I think so,” He finally answered, simpering. “More than I thought.”

Cliff gapes at him.In which the hit that Cliff Marleau had on Shane Hollander goes a little different. For one, they’re in Boston. For another, Ilya realizes he might be panicking? Which is probably not something to do in the middle of a game. And, oh yeah, he just outed both himself and his not-boyfriend to an entire locker room of hockey players.
But that’s okay, because while Boston may be vicious, they do take care of their own. And they quickly realize that their captain’s happiness and willingness to stay with the Bears is tied to Shane Hollander. The solution is easy, they’ll just have to make Shane Hollander a Bear.
