Robby struggled, the words evading him. Jack's patient, patient eyes bore into him with a kindness so soft it hurt.
Eventually he forced out, “I didn’t want to overstep.”
Jack’s shoulders visibly relaxed. “I assure you, it’s not overstepping. I doubt there's anything you could do that would overstep.” he added.
Robby felt where the conversation was going, and it terrified him. He was used to fear, but not like this. Not this quiet, overwhelming, exciting fear that vibrated under the surface of his skin.
“Not anything?” he responded, voice quiet, scratchy.
