Right now, he’s watching her as she closes her eyes, ducking her head as she tries to come up with the words. And probably, he should say that she doesn’t need to tell him. It’s none of his business. But she’s been following him for weeks and he thinks that he’s owed an explanation, at least. And a real one, not something that’s easy to swallow but has no truth in it.
“The truth is,” she says eventually, “that you – uh. Well.”
She sighs. And then, like a miracle, opens her eyes and looks at him.
“You look like someone I used to care about very much,” she says. “That’s all.”

when the doctor and yaz find a planet in ruins, they’re only half surprised to discover the master is responsible. but when his plan backfires, suddenly they have no choice but to work with him to stop his former allies from tearing the universe apart.
