Summary
He dredged through months slumbering and waking with a lover and a small checklist of tasks to greet him in the morning. Further back to months of restless nights and short naps through the day but nothing much to do. Then to a time of sleeping the days away in the closest thing he could get to fading entirely from existence.
In all that time, he couldn’t recall a single dream. It wasn’t merely the hazy content of a mind teetering between the sleeping and waking world that was beyond his grasp. There were no interrupted nights nor early morning. No racing heart nor stray thought of how strange that dream had been before the strangeness itself vanished back into the depths of his mind.
Nothing. His nights were empty.
…
Phainon must have been able to dream. Once. It was just another thing he had lost along the way, up an insurmountable journey, in wait for someone else to take his responsibilities to that final end beyond his reach.
For Amphoreans, sleep comes with the risk of reliving nightmares taken from the small eternity of their memories. The one exception is Phainon, who can no longer dream at all.

Summary
“You’re interested in me.” It was not a question. Despite the teasing tone, Flins’ face remained impassive. “No shame in that, Young Master.”
“That’s–,” Illuga huffed, running his hand through his hair. “Must you always be like this?”
“I don’t see what you mean,” he said, staring at him with his ever-imposing, lifeless eyes. “I did just say that it’s alright.”
“I’m merely trying to understand. You don’t need to bother with the flirting that you always use to deflect the question, you know – I’m not like everyone else.”
“You sure aren’t,” Flins said with an enigmatic smile as he poured another glass for him.
“And stop with the water, I’ve already drunk three glasses.”
“And yet you still seem thirsty.”
Illuga grit his teeth, forcing the rush of blood to his cheeks to desist. “Don’t make me any angrier than I already am, Sir Flins.”

Summary
"Stop what?"
"This," Illuga said, gesturing vaguely between them with his free hand. "Whatever game you're playing. I can't–" He swallowed hard. "–I can't keep doing this. It feels like–” The words died in his throat. He couldn't put a name to the feeling that had been plaguing him for so long.
Flins’ gaze had become quite weird at that point. It made something electric run through him.
“Like what?” Flins asked again.
“Like you’re stringing me along.”

Summary
“I shouldn’t pry into your business,” Illuga says. “I only asked because I was thinking about something you said in Nasha Town. You said your friends don’t understand your habits.”
“I detect an unasked question. Would you like to know if I consider us friends? Or perhaps what kind of strange habits I was talking about? Frankly, young master, my private affairs are none of—”
“I am not asking about your private affairs,” Illuga interrupts, looking at the ground. “And I wasn’t asking if you consider us friends, either. I suppose I wanted to know if that was why you spend all your time at the Final Night Cemetery, instead of with the rest of the Lightkeepers.”
A normal afternoon with two normal Lightkeepers.
