Summary
Kurt looks up. His eyes light up—literally—at the sight of him, and Logan has about two seconds to enjoy that. Two seconds to think about how much he loves to see that—how much more like a person it makes him feel, the joy in Kurt’s eyes when he sees Logan. Then the smile slips from his face, and Logan sees the moment that his hold on the children starts to fade.
Shit.
He hears two panicked screams, and Logan’s at Kurt’s side before he even realizes he’s moving. There are two kids in his arms, dots of blood on the pavement underneath from his knuckles as his skin knits itself together again. Kurt hits the ground with a sick thud that he has to pretend he doesn’t hear.

kurt pushes himself a little too far - no one really could've predicted what happened after.

Summary
Jayce doesn’t realize how shitty he feels until Mel collapses into his arms and he can’t support her weight—his knee buckles underneath him, and its all he can do to drag her closer to him to protect her from the hard floor of the council’s chambers as they fall.
Mel only seems half-conscious, shaking in his arms as he lifts one hand from her side to cradle the back of her head. “We’re okay,” he murmurs, shifting both knees underneath him despite the way his leg screams in agony; he pulls her into his lap and against his chest. His voice is rough and strained, more a wheeze than anything else. Jayce can still feel metal fingers wrapped around his neck, around his wrist. “It’s okay. You’re okay."
mel and jayce after viktor's attack in the council chambers.

Summary
The hand previously at the back of his neck curling around his throat and pressing. And Jayce chokes on a whine, hips faltering for just a moment as white-hot pleasure shoots down his spine.
“Oh,” Viktor’s breathless, but he still manages to look as cocky as he sounds—like he’s discovered a flaw in Jayce’s math, found a simple, stupid mistake and he’s going to sit there and wait for Jayce to find it, too. “You do like that, don’t you?”
jayce asks viktor to choke him. viktor is happy to oblige.

Summary
Turning to see a gun pointed directly at her head was terrifying—but watching Jayce collapse with blood pouring from his back and his shoulder, staining both his coat and the stage he once delivered speeches from red, is somehow worse. A permanent reminder of what happened here. And that would be the point, wouldn’t it? To remind them of the losses they already suffered, and then the people they would lose today.
“Jayce,” Mel says, and there’s a shift in her mother’s expression. It’s not quite annoyance, not quite anger, but a distaste that twists her lips into a grimace. Mel knows she doesn’t like Jayce—that she thinks he weakens her, that he influences her far too much in far too many ways. Ways that she doesn’t approve of. “Is he alright? Has anyone seen him?”
After the attack at the memorial, Mel sets off in search of Jayce.

Summary
“You didn’t let me finish.” Viktor says. His voice shakes with it. Not a modulation, not the threatening but curious mechanical whir it was before—but the emotion that Jayce can see brimming in his eyes. Fear brimming at the surface, caving and giving way to hope. To a hint of amusement and endearment, to a little tease of a smile. He brushes his thumb underneath them, gathering his tears away like he might be able to erase all the hurt stored in them if he just tried and cared and loved hard enough.
“You don’t need to.” Jayce tells him. “I meant it all. The idea of perfection is a paradox. No one was ever going to achieve it, and maybe that’s… Viktor, I think that’s the beauty of life. It’s what makes us people. The things we can’t change, the things that people love us for anyway. Perfection is a lie. But if anyone ever came close,” Viktor’s hand settles on top of his—the mutation of flesh and metal is warm against his skin, still tingling with ambient magic and energy in a way that sends goosebumps crawling up his arm. “it was you.”

Summary
“The Inquisitor is down!”
He can’t see the Inquisitor, beyond his discarded weapon lying a few feet away and the glint of the helmet he miraculously convinced them to wear. Something cruel and dangerous grips his heart, threatening to rip it from his chest and expose it to the world. It hammers in his throat in a last ditch attempt to escape terror’s grasp.
Maker, this would be so much easier if he was a healer.

Summary
"Forget about me." He speaks before she can even think of an answer to her own question. And Leon's voice doesn't waver, which scares her more. Is it bravado or confidence? Or a particularly lethal combination of both? "Just go. Stop her before she gets away."
Ada looks up, toward the door Annette disappeared behind. It's vital that she catches up to Annette and secures the G-Virus, but glancing back down at Leon... God, he's half conscious and looking up at her like she's plucked the moon out of the sky for him—and he doesn't even realize it. What are the odds that he lives, if she leaves him alone down here with who the hell knows what?
“Not a chance,” she tells him.

Summary
At the end of the hallway, reality snaps and tears open. The Institute looks up as one entity; the grind of metal echoes and fills the room as weapons are drawn and a Portal opens.
Magnus’ grip on Alec’s arm becomes painful—he barely hears Izzy’s sharp inhale behind him as his vision tunnels.
Clary and Jace are a mess when they stumble out of the swirling image of the lake. It’s unclear who’s holding up who at first—they’re both covered in blood, clothing torn in various places. There’s a bloody seraph blade clutched in Jace’s other hand But it becomes glaringly obvious when Jace looks up and meets his eyes. Panic and fear flood through him—Jace’s panic and fear, it’s a fucking miracle that he’s feeling it at all. He wouldn’t be this scared if he was worried about himself—at the very least, he wouldn’t let Alec in enough to feel it.
(coda to the episode of shadowhunters because i wanted to see it. so i wrote it.)

Summary
“Ben-Hassrath offered an alliance to the Inquisition.” Bull is looking down at their hands, laced together and folded neatly on Dorian’s thigh. His tone is unreadable, then—he’s not sure what Bull thinks of that. He wants to ask is that good? Is that bad?
“Has that ever happened before?”
“No,” Bull exhales slowly. “Boss wants to check it out. We leave for the coast first thing tomorrow.”
or: bull has a personal stake in a mission. dorian is staying home. he definitely takes that information well.

Summary
“Unless someone is already dead,” Dorian says as he drags the door open, “you’ve interrupted a horrible nap for no reason, and I will kill you.”
The look Vivienne gives him reminds Dorian so heavily of Maevaris that he almost laughs—unbothered by his antics, concerned for the rest—but he very quickly reconsiders it. Whatever semblance of acquaintanceship they’ve stumbled upon isn’t nearly strong enough to survive it, and despite how awful he feels, Dorian hasn’t a death wish.
or: periods are a bitch. magic, unsurprisingly, is helpful.

Summary
Viktor and his body have come to a… mutual understanding by now, if you will. He sees it as a sort of symbiotic relationship—he provides nourishment in the form of cheap, quick food and a potentially fatal amount of coffee, and in return he gets a—though temporary—flesh vessel.
He learned early on that Jayce loves his body.

Summary
Jayce doesn’t remember the last time he saw the sky.
Okay. Maybe that’s an exaggeration. It feels, in the moment, like it’s been years—centuries; even—since he stepped foot outside of Viktor’s apartment. But he knows in reality he’s only been occupying his couch for maybe a couple of hours.
And still, Jayce wonders if this is where he’s going to die: on his best friend, his boyfriend, and his partner’s couch.

Summary
The door clicks. Jayce hears it swing open, and his head jerks to the side as he remains frozen to the spot. Caitlyn is standing in the doorway. Her hand is still on the doorknob, and she’s just staring at him.
Jayce stares back. He can’t move, his arms are still crossed and he’s still holding onto the fabric, and he can’t move and the silence drags on forever, and—
“Oh,” Caitlyn finally says, looking a little embarrassed. “Sorry.”

Summary
If the Bull wants to stay locked in his horrible, dreadful room all on his lonesome, who is anyone to stop him? Dorian, that’s who. As stubborn as Bull can be, he is Dorian Pavus. If anyone can annoy and harass someone into healing, it would be him. And if he happens to get proof of life in the process, well, that would be entirely irrelevant. Simply an added bonus.
