Summary
As High Prince of the kingdom, Ryland Grace has had to do a lot of things he doesn’t want to. The idea of being forced to watch suitors compete for his hand in marriage through combat is enough to turn his stomach for multiple reasons. The first being it’s barbaric and absolutely ridiculous. The second reason is one that he keeps close to his frozen heart- that he’s already loved and lost his one true love. Nothing is going to overcome the grief is his chest, especially not one of these champions that are only fighting for his crown.
As he watches that dark haunting knight in the iron armor beat foe after foe, rising to the top ranks, he’s starting to have to come to terms with idea that he doesn’t get to choice in the matter. It stings to think about, his heart is heavy in his chest, he foolishly thinks that although his Simon had never been a fighter, he’d like to think he would have tried.

He had seen glimpses of his dad in passing a few times, but with it being early in the year there hadn't been any parent-teacher conferences to officially meet. Sol looked up at Ryland with a big smile.
“He’s a florist, his shops downtown and it's really pretty. He has a ton of flowers all over the place, some are even hanging on the ceiling. Dad lets me come to work with him on the weekends and I get to pick out a bouquet for the table.” he said in nearly a single breath.
