Summary
It's the year 1983 in Hawkins. Four boys sat in Mike's basement, playing D&D. Life was basic enough, and they liked it this way. But as most good things, it came to an end. Michael Wheeler goes missing on November 6th, 1983. Strange things begin occurred in the town, and some residents realize this isn't normal. Despite everything, they search for answers, trying to figure out what all these mysteries mean. Between interdimensional monsters and children with powers, things in Hawkins just got a lot stranger.

“Will, c’mon,” El calls from where she and Max are slaving in the summer heat washing Lucas and Mike's cars, “help us out!”
“He’s busy!” Mike protests automatically, though his voice is hesitant.
“Busy? Pfft,” Max scoffs, tossing a soapy sponge from hand to hand, “He’s been standing there like a lawn ornament forever. Hurry up, Will, you can help too, shirt off!”
Mike freezes, heart jabbing upward in panic. Shirt off. Will’s shirt off. Oh no.
Lucas snorts, “Oh, I get it now. That’s their plan, huh? Get Will to take his shirt off so you can… pay extra attention.” His eyes are teasing, devilish, and Mike feels heat rush to his ears.
OR
Your typical summer time car wash scene with Max and El as instigators, Will with the cute (shirtless, duh) boy next door vibes and Mike can't ignore some things about himself any longer.

Mike gazed out over the lake as they steadied the boat, sitting down on the old, splintered planks which served as benches. The gate ripped like fire across the water. The authorities had long since stopped placing security alongside the entire edge of the tear in the earth. It just sat, smoldering, hellish. Somehow gravity played into this whole thing, and the water of the lake… hadn’t fallen through the gate.
The beach they pushed off from was actually oddly tranquil.
Will grabbed the paddles. “God, we should’ve at least left a note or something-”
“Will.” Mike said seriously. “You can go back if you want. I wouldn’t blame you.”
“No, no, I- it’s just bad in there, Mike.”
What had he been thinking? Mike suddenly felt incredibly guilty. Pulling Will back into the Upside Down after what’d happened-
“Shit, Will. I didn’t even think,” Mike said anxiously. “If you-”
Will looked him dead in the eyes. “Absolutely not. I'm not going anywhere.” He began shrugging off his jacket.
Mike’s heart did something funny in his chest. “Cool.”
